Upon successful completing its registration and gaining this right granted by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) under UN. Kente is elevated to the league of world-famous heritage products, as Pizzas and Wine is to Italy, Wine to France
Making it the first Ghanaian product to receive GI status.
This is to right authenticate ownership and economic benefits for weaving communities particularly in Ghana.
The Ghana Tourism Authority, the Office of the Attorney General, the Copyright Office took all the necessary steps involved to get this landmark recognition for Ghana.
